A couple, Uchechukwu and Ogechi Amadi, whose house was used as detention camp for those high profile kidnapping victims of the arrested kidnapping kingpin, Chukwudi Duneme Onuamadike aka Evans have opened up on their role in the criminal acts.
The couple were among the suspects paraded by the Police alongside their leader, Evans on Sunday at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
Uchechukwu is the leader of Detention Gang, one of the two groups coordinated by Evans.
He told P.M.EXPRESS that their boss, Evans rented the apartment at 21 Prophet Ashaye Close, New Igando, Lagos where he lived with his wife, Ogechi and the house also served as their detention camp.
He said before the house was rented and paid for, it was his wife, Ogechi, who contacted one Ngozi who handled the tenancy arrangement before they moved him.
The suspect said his role was to keep the victims as long as the boss wanted, which usually lasted for several months until he receive directive from Evans to release them after the complete ransom must have been paid.
The suspect disclosed that their victims were usually brought in at night blind-folded and then chained in a room.
He said his wife’s role was to cook and feed the victims while in their care for those months.
He revealed that they never maltreated the victims because they considered them their cash cows that must not die while in the detention camp thus they provide their immediate needs for their survivals.
Uchechukwu however said that he felt really cheated by Evans because he has not really benefited much from the crime as he did not know that their boss was collecting huge millions of dollars as ransom without given him his own fair share.
“I did not know that victims were paying millions of dollars as ransom to Evans, neither did we know he was using the money to acquire choice properties. Nothing much has been given to me and my wife who was keeping and taking care of the victims,” he lamented.
Uchechukwu, who hails from Ngo Okpala, Imo State, said he had known Evans while he was working at the motor park in Mazamaza in Lagos before he was made the head of the detention camp.
Evans, the kingpin was arrested in his mansion in Magodo Estate in Lagos on Saturday by the police Joint Special Forces led by the Intelligence Response Team,  the Lagos State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Technical and Intelligent Unit of the Force under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
The police described Evans, a native of Nnewi,  “as  the vicious leader of a highly organised kidnap-for-ransom syndicate and criminal gang terrorising and responsible for several kidnap of notable/prominent Nigerians in Lagos State, including the Western, Eastern, South-South and some Northern States”.
“He has his gangs active and spread across these mentioned states,” the police said.
