Tade Ogidan Shines With ‘Gold Statue’ At 2019 BON Awards

Veteran filmmaker, Tade Ogidan and his latest film, Gold Statue ruled the awards chart at the 11th edition of the Best of Nollywood held Saturday December 14 in Kano.
During the awards ceremony held inside the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House, Ogidan’s ‘Gold Statue’ and its lead actor, Gabriel Afolayan emerged the biggest winners as both clinched the coveted ‘Movie of the Year’ and ‘Best Actor of the Year’ respectively.
The film, which also earned Ogidan the honour of ‘Director of the Year’, as well got the award for the ‘Movie with the Best Production Design’, ‘Film With The Best Use of Sound’ and ‘Best Use of Make-up in a Movie’ to make the total haul of six awards.
Femi Adebayo’s flick, ‘Diamond In The Sky’ also shone brightly during the night with two awards –‘Movie With The Best Editing’ and ‘Movie with the Best Cinematography’.
The movie, Majele also scooped two awards –‘Movie With the Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Use of Costume in a Movie’.
Other notable winners during the night were Tamara Etaimo, who emerged the ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ (English) for her role in the movie Thick Skinned; Ibrahim Yekini, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Yoruba) for his role in The Return of Kesari; Adebimpe Oyebade, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Yoruba) in the movie 0707; Abba Elmustapha, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Hausa) in the movie, Hauwa Kulu; and Hadiza Gabon and Hassana Muhammad, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Hausa) in the movie, Hauwa Kulu.
The highlight of the night was the presentation of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’ to veteran thespian Abubakar Sadiq Daba by the Chief Host and Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
While presenting the awards to the ailing seasoned actor and broadcaster, Governor Ganduje appreciated the immense talent of the honouree and congratulated him for the well deserving recognition. 
During his remark at the ceremony, the Governor reiterated the State’s excitement that Best of Nollywood was held in Kano. “This is history for the good people of Kano State,” he said.
The Governor, who stayed till the end of the ceremony, later announced a donation of N1 million to Daba for his upkeep.
With support from Kano State Government, PAN Automobile, Max Air and LaCasera, this year’s event, as promised by the BON Awards founder and executive producer, Mr. Seun Oloketuyi, delivered as expected with seamless fusion of Kannywood with the rest of Nollywood.
The awards ceremony, hosted by ace comedian and compere, Gbenga Adeyinka1st and Kannywood star actress, Maryam Booth, had top Nollywood stars and practitioners in attendance.
It was spiced with breathtaking musical and comical performances from the best in the sectors.
