A 19-year old, Joshua Olayiwola, has been arrested and charged for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 8-year old daughter in Oyo State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ojo Ekun area of Ibadan town, where they reside.
He was charged before the Family Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, told the Court that Olayiwola, on 15th April, 2024, between 8am and 10 pm allegedly defiled the minor in the Ojo Ekun area of Ibadan.
The prosecutor stated that the alleged offence contravened the provisions of Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law 2006, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. S. A. Adesina, did not take his plea. She rather ordered his remand in custody for lack of jurisdiction and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned till 13th June, 2024, for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
