19-year old Dahiru Usman has been sentenced to one month imprisonment for assaulting a sex worker, Zainab Idris, over sex in a hotel in Kaduna State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Shari’a Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, sentenced Usman and offered him an option of ₦7,000 fine and mandated him to pay ₦70,000 in compensation, failing which he would face a 12-month prison sentence.
The prosecution, Supol Luka Sadau, told the Court that the complainant, Zainab Idris, reported the incident to the Sabon Gari Police Station on 15th January, 2025.
The complainant stated that she and Usman had agreed to meet at a hotel on Constitution Road for a sex fee of ₦10,000. However, a dispute arose in the hotel room, leading Usman to physically assault her.
The prosecutor, Supol Sadau, revealed that Usman struck Zainab on the head with a hammer causing injury.
During the hearing, the prosecution presented the hammer as evidence and urged the Court to impose an appropriate penalty, including ordering compensation for the victim.
Usman pleaded guilty to charges of assault and causing harm.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Kabir Muhammad, delivered the verdict granting Usman the option of paying the fine and compensation to avoid an extended jail term in line with the Kaduna State’s Shari’a judicial system.
