Tenant Bites Landlady While Making Peace
CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

A landlady, Mrs. Ruth Akinfiro, has temporarily gone into hiding after she was attacked and sustained serious injury on her hand as a result of a bite by her tenant`s wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Johnny, who equally threatened to send armed men to deal with her and members of her family.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at 94 Abanise Street, Cele Bus Stop in Agodo Egbe, Lagos.
The victim, Mrs. Akinfiro, was said to have gone to settle a rift and make peace between two of her tenants over dog in the compound.
It was at the point of settlement that her tenant’s wife, Ifeoma, who was said to be nursing hatred for her vented her anger and gave her a deep bite.
However, the matter took a different turn after the threat to deal with the landlady and her family became real and the police was contacted. When the police moved in to investigate the allegations, Ifeoma was said to have resisted arrest and still threatened that she will deal with the victim.
This was also confirmed by the victim, Mrs. Ruth Akinfiro, who said that she was still shocked over what happened. She said she wondered why the woman, Ifeoma, acted that way having lived in the compound for almost 13 years. She narrated that despite the complaints by other tenants that Ifeoma and her household were troublesome with her husband having signed an undertaking to be of good conduct, she did not know that their conduct will degenerate to attacking her.
Narrating what happened, Mrs. Ruth said that on 1st May, 2019, she went to settle a dispute between two tenants and after she had concluded that, she tried to address security issues in compound alongside her mother, sister in-law and son.
She explained that due to constant quarrels in the compound, Ifeoma and her husband were asked look for another apartment elsewhere for the interest of peace. She stated while she was still addressing the security issues in the compound, Ifeoma began to insult her mother, sister in-law and attacked them with a padlock. During the scuffle, her son, who went to separate the fight, also reportedly became a victim as Ifeoma was said to have held his clothes and punched him on the chest. She said it was in her attempt to separate them that she, Ifeoma, held her hand and gave her deep bite before the fight was eventually separated. Mrs. Ruth alleged that after the incident Ifeoma and her younger brother threatened to send armed men to deal with her and members of her family.
P.M.EXPRESS investigation revealed that Ifeoma and her family were aided by one of their relations, who is a senior police officer, who was said to encourage them to do what they like and to deal with the landlady in order to extort money to rent another apartment.
However, Mrs. Ruth, not taking the threat lightly, has moved the matter to the police higher authorities for thorough investigation.
Efforts to speak with Ifeoma proved abortive as she declined to make any comment.
