The Time To Build Sustainable Partnerships Is Now – ONC PG, Amb. Ibe Tells Host Communities

The Orashi National Congress (ONC) has called on host communities in Rivers State to fully embrace Powergas Limited and other prospective investors, urging them to prioritize peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.
This appeal was made during a sensitization meeting organized by the ONC with critical stakeholders from the Ogbele and Obumeze communities.
The meeting, which was convened by the President General of ONC, Amb. Comr. Emeni Ibe, aimed to address growing concerns over community-company relations and prevent any potential resistance to ongoing and future investments in the area.
Amb. Ibe, in his address, expressed concern over speculations that some factions within the host communities might attempt to resist or disrupt the operations of Powergas Ltd and other incoming investors such as Set Energy.
“We must not send the wrong signal to investors. Powergas is already established here, and if we, as landlords, allow conflict or resistance, others like Set Energy will simply walk away,” he said.
He urged community landlords to take proactive steps by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Powergas Ltd to clearly define responsibilities and benefits, thereby avoiding future conflicts and ensuring mutual trust.
“The time to build sustainable partnerships is now. Let us not wait for conflict before we negotiate. I appeal to the families and community leaders to sign the MoU with Powergas and give peace a chance,” he added.
Amb. Ibe also used the occasion to appreciate the efforts of traditional rulers in maintaining peace. He thanked His Imperial Majesty, Eze Ekpeye Logbo III, and Eze Igbu Olukwor for their timely intervention and for calling the youths to order during rising tensions.
“Your royal wisdom and leadership have continued to be the pillars of unity in our region. We are grateful,” he noted.
The ONC President General reiterated his commitment to advancing community development and promoting investor confidence in the Orashi region. He stressed that development can only thrive in a peaceful and cooperative environment.
Community leaders present at the meeting pledged to take the message back to their various families and consult on the process of engaging with Powergas Ltd constructively.
