Top Celebrities Join NDLEA Drug Free Campaign Club

The NDLEA Celebrity Drug Free Club and the campaign for a drug free society received a boost in Lagos following the induction of another set of celebrities from the entertainment industry into the club recently.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that top on the list were the popular comedian and Master of Ceremony, Mr. Gbenga Adeyinka, Don Pedro, Greg Ojukwu, Julius Onoje, Mojekwu Ozioma Favour a.k.a OZ Bosco and other celebrities.

They were inducted at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, which was the venue of the event by the chairman of the NDLEA represented by Dr. Martins Agwogie and coordinator of the NDLEA Celebrity Drug Free Club, Mr. Wilson Ighodalo.

The event was organized by an NGO, Youthrise and The Drug Salvation Foundation founded by the coordinator of NDLEA Celebrity Drug Free Club, Mr. Ighodalo in conjunction with NDLEA on the sensitization of the stakeholders on the need for a drug free society.
Mr. Ighodalo explained that the club was formed for the celebrities to give back to the society by joining the campaign so that the youths can refrain from drug abuse.
He noted that drug abuse had imparted negatively on the youths and some of them have been so addicted and rendered useless in the society.
He explained that when the youths see the celebrities who they regard as their role model campaigning against drug abuse, they will easily be imparted positively, refrain from taking drugs and be useful to the society.

The chairman of NDLEA, who was represented by Dr. Martins, noted the impart of drug abuse in the society and enjoined all stakeholders to get involved in the campaign for the betterment of the society. He also noted that drug abuse has become common among the youths in our society and we should employ every means available to discourage it and the job was not for NDLEA alone.
He thanked the celebrities who had joined the campaign and encourage others to join as a way of giving back to the society. He advised that we should show love to the drug users by employing every civil means in discouraging them and not by criminalization and stigmatization.
The event witnessed the presence of stakeholders including the youths, students, Ministers of God and people from different sectors.
During the interactive session, it was generally agreed that punishing drug users was not the solution for the fight against drug abuse but love and genuine care for the users which will have more impart.
