Five traders who were arrested and charged before the court in Lagos for engaging in anal sex and contacting HIV have escaped death after they were attacked and sent away by fellow traders in the market.

The incident happened at the popular Ejigbo Market located along Ikotun Road in Ejigbo, Lagos.

The victims were Luke Ezeugo, 30, Daniel Dara, 29, Marvelous Christian, 25, Aneka Akachukwu, 20 and Abuchi Michael, 20.

It was confirmed that the victims used to sell stuff like rice, beans, vegetables, crayfish and others before they were arrested over their sexual misconduct. They were charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for fighting publicly over anal sex partners. The police at Ikotun Division got the information and arrested them. It was later discovered that they were all HIV positive as the court was informed by their counsel.

They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was further adjourned for trial before other issues came out.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the prison officials declined taking them to prison because of their health status and they were ordered to be remanded at the Police Station at Ikotun Division pending when they will perfect their bail condition.

It was confirmed that the suspects perfected their bail conditions and were released from custody last week in order to be coming for trial from home.

However, when they attempted to resume their trade and went to the market, the traders revolted, attacked and threw stones at them. They attempted mob action before the leader of the market popularly known as Iyaloja intervened and prevailed on the traders not to do so. The victims were ordered not to step their feet at the market take less of coming to sell their wares. They went home frustrated and dejected.

When P.M.EXPRESS went to the market, some of the traders confirmed the incident and claimed that their health status posed serious danger to the traders and their customers who patronise them. They alleged that their conduct was distasteful and abominable in the society.

Efforts to speak with the Iyaloja proved abortive as she was said not to have come to the market.
