Two Dead, One Arrested As Police Foil Robbery Attempt After Shootout

Operatives from the Ogun State Police Command led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Igbede Division, have foiled the attempt of the men of the underworld from carrying out operation in a warehouse situated at Oyinbo area of the State.
According to the report by the Ogun State Police Spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the robbers, who were well armed, invaded “FASTLINK’’ electronics and phone warehouse in Ijebu-Ode in the early hours of Wednesday 3rd February, 2021.
As the robbers sighted the Police, they opened fire on them and the Police retaliated.
Two members of the armed robbery syndicate were shot dead in the encounter with Police operatives from the Ogun State Police Command, while one member of the group was apprehended alive.
The Ogun PPRO said, “This followed a distress call received by the DPO Igbeba Division, CSP Doga Najeem, from a local vigilante leader, that the warehouse situated in Oyingbo area of Ijebu-ode has been invaded by dare devil robbers, who were armed with dangerous weapons”.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO mobilized his patrol team in conjunction with So-Safe Corp, and moved to the scene.
On sighting the Policemen, the robbers engaged them in a gun battle for about an hour, at the end of which two members of the gang were fatally shot and one arrested. Others escaped in their standby vehicle with various degrees of gunshot injuries.”

The arrested suspected robber, who identified himself as Isiaka Yakubu, a 28-year old indigene of Yauri in Zamfara State, in his confessional statement claimed they were eight members in the group and they came from Lagos State, where they have been hiding and preparing for some days before coming to Ijebu-Ode for the operation.

Some of the items recovered from them were one locally made gun, one iron cutter, two cutlasses, one iron chisel, as well as mobile phones and electrical materials worth N6million, which they removed from the warehouse.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Edward A. Ajogun, commended his men for their swift response to the distress call. He likewise ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
CP Edward also directed a massive hunt for the fleeing members of the gang with the view of bringing them to justice.
He appealed to the members of the public especially hospitals to report anybody seen with gunshot injuries to the Police. He also warned criminals to stop testing the will-power of the Command, as determination and resilience of officers and men to decisively deal with all forms of criminality in the State is unwavering
