US-based Doctor, Thelma Ezeonu Restates Commitment To Empowering Nigerian Children On World Children’s Day

In an interview with journalists at her country home in Ifite Ogbeadiji village, Nnobi, Anambra State, Dr. Ezeonu reaffirmed her dedication to empowering Nigerian children, emphasizing the need for collective action to protect their rights and well-being.

Dr. Ezeonu lamented over the abduction of the Kebbi schoolgirls, describing the incident as a painful and disturbing act that highlights the urgent need for safety and security for all children. She expressed her shock and sadness over the incident, emphasizing that no child should ever be subjected to such trauma and that every effort should be made to secure their safe release.

She also expressed deep distress over the incident, noting that women, girls, and children continue to suffer the worst consequences of violence in Nigeria. Dr. Ezeonu emphasized that this is unacceptable and called on all stakeholders to work together to create a safer and more secure environment for all children to grow and thrive.

According to Dr. Mrs. Thelma Ezeonu, the theme of this year’s World Children’s Day, “My Day, My Rights, And For Every Child, Every Right,” aligns with the goals and mission of the Hamilton and Thelma Ezeonu Foundation. She explained that every child deserves safety, dignity, education, love, and equal opportunity, and that her foundation is committed to making a difference in the lives of Nigerian children.

Dr. Mrs. Thelma Ezeonu recalled her earlier announcement of the “One Child, One School Bag” initiative, aimed at providing school bags to pupils in public primary schools in Anambra state. She stated that over 15,000 pupils in 45 public primary schools in Idemili South local government area of Anambra state have already benefited from the program, and urged stakeholders to join hands in ensuring that every child has access to quality education.

Ezeonu, the wife of Anambra-born philanthropist, Chief Hamilton Ezeonu, (Ikemba Nnobi), has been actively involved in various charitable initiatives, particularly those focused on women’s and children’s welfare. Her commitment to empowering Nigerian children is evident in her advocacy for property rights and will writing, aiming to safeguard families from exploitation.

Ezeonu reaffirmed her commitment to the cause, emphasizing that the Hamilton and Thelma Ezeonu Foundation will continue to work tirelessly to support and empower Nigerian children.
