Chairman of community security network, popularly known as Vigilante, Mr Ganiyu Isola Balogun, was reportedly murdered by members of an unidentified cult group in Ile Ife, Osun State, southwest Nigeria in the early hours of Friday 6 October 2017.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that the ugly incident happened at Modomo area of the ancient city of Ile Ife.

It was gathered that the death of Balogun might not be unconnected with the way his vigilante group has been preventing the cultists, who are popularly known as Badoo, from perpetrating their evil acts in the community.

The cultists had been terrorising the community for the past few months, robbing and even killing some people who were not ready to cooperate with them.

It was learnt that Mr. Balogun, who was the chairman of the vigilante group in the area, vowed to stop all the bad activities of the cultists, not knowing to him that the cultists also have been on his trail.

On this fateful night, the vigilantes have gone out with their usual patrol in the night and after finishing their duty, they all retired to their different homes.

Few minutes the chairman of the vigilantes got to his house, it was these evil visitors that came knocking on his door.

A neighbour who craved for anonymity told P.M. EXPRESS that the cultists, who invaded the house in their numbers, marcheted Balogun with cutlasses, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons before they fled.

“When we discovered Mr Balogun lying in his pool of blood, we have to quickly rush him to the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile Ife, but before we could get to the hospital, he passed away. The doctor on duty that night confirmed him dead.

However, the unfortunate incident has since been reported at Nigeria Police Force, Moore Division in Ile-Ife.

P.M. EXPRESS gathered from the police that they have commenced investigations to unravel the people behind the killing of the chairman of the vigilante group.
