We’ve Blocked All Revenue Leakages, Says Customs Compt. Aliyu

The Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service in Lagos said that the strategy it has adopted by blocking all revenue leakages is seriously yielding profits to the Federal government through its increased monthly revenue.

In a press release signed by the image maker of the Command, Selachang Taupyen, a Chief Superintendent, and made available to Journalists, the Comptroller, Mohammed Aliyu said the Command has adopted professional method of conducting its operations in the area.

“We adopted a pure professional method of revenue drive by making sure that no dutiable goods enters through here without undergoing proper assessment for duties no matter how small it is. Despite the fact that we have zero tolerance for contraband goods and smuggling by deploying all professional dexterity to the foe, our monthly revenue has been dependent,” he said.

According to Compt. Aliyu, in the month of August, the Command generated the sum of N107 million.

It also made 48 seizures with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N32.8 million including 100 bags of 50 kilograms of fertilizers, 1,840 cartoons of mosquito repellent coils, soaps, creams, second hand clothes otherwise referred to as Okrika, and used bags among others.

Comptroller Aliyu said all these were achieved as a result of intelligence gathering and commitment of the officers.

He added that the Command is determined to generate more revenue as the year draws to an end despite low economic activities in the area.

He however warned smugglers to desist from smuggling and embrace legitimate trade.
