Where Is Your Son?…HK Or Hostel?

Posted on January 18, 2022

For reasons of poverty, and/or moral laxity, most parents prevaricate this question. You have sent your son to institution of higher learning, and assume he is still in school doing the expected.

One semester after another, you do not call for his result or bother to monitor progress. You neither know where he stays nor who his room-mate (s) is.

Sorry Sir, your Son is neither going to classes, nor does he still live in that hostel you know about. He has been admitted into “UNIFRAUD”, and now lives in a place called HK (Hustlers Kingdom).

HK is the new face of “ịgba boi” in Igbo land. In other areas, it is the much talked about “Digital Enterpreneurship” that is cloaked in many unregulated names and structures. HKs are owned by “Investors” – – Senior Yahoo Boys who have successfully paid their dues in the criminal underworld. They are the new Oga who benevolently “cut soap” to younger ones who want to be like them.

There is more to say, but before we continue, pick your phone and call that Son or Ward of yours and know where he is. Ask for his Academic records and welfare. If you don’t do this, sorry Sir, you are simply an accomplice. The Family has sadly become a “Failing Institution”.
