Why House Member Was Arrested – Imo Govt

Posted on November 14, 2020

Earlier today, some Media platforms reported the arrest and detention of a serving House of Assembly member, Hon Heclus Okoro, on the order of the Governor of Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma.

Hon Heclus Okoro was allegedly arrested and detained at the Govt House, Owerri.

Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor, on New and Electronic Media, Mrs. Nneamaka Okafor, has reacted over the incident.

According to her, “My attention has been drawn to yet another malicious report by the opposition to try to pitch the public against Governor Hope Uzodinma”.
“This constant feeling of entitlement by people needs to stop.”

“How do you as an Honourable Member abuse the privilege of being allowed into the Government House by not only bringing thugs into the seat of power in Imo State but also drawing a weapon in Government House?”.
“As a lawmaker, you should know that that it is a punishable offence under the Nigerian law.”

“Unlike past administrations, which will not condone this behaviour, Governor Hope Uzodinma was first oblivious of the incidence as he was held up in his office attending to other State matters and unlike past leaders, who are high handed the Police has been allowed to do their job.”

“So for those, who went to sell falsehood to the bloggers and opposition, the House Member was handled by the Police and just maybe you should read the Law and get acquainted with what the Law says on issues surrounding such behaviour.”

“What is more curious is that the man he came to fight for, was part of his colleagues who came to present the new Speaker to His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma.”

“The mantra of the present administration is rehabilitation, reconstruction and recovery”.
“It is not by mistake that rehabilitation comes first because there is a need to have a change of attitude. Gone are the days; politically exposed persons and even the citizenry take laws into their hands. We all need to do things in line with the Law.’

“So to answer this writer, Hon. Heclus is not detained in Government House by the Governor”.

According to the Law books and Police, the House Member committed a crime by drawing a weapon in Government House and coming into the Government House with thugs.”
“The Police arrested him and his cohorts and he is in their custody. And since he was arrested by the Police, they will decide whether they will charge him to Court or not” Mrs. Nneamaka Okafor concluded.
