Woman, 40, Arraigned For Allegedly Stabbing Another Woman With Knife During Dispute

A 40-year-old woman, Ifeoma Chianumba, was on Monday before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos over allegations of assault and grievous harm.
The defendant was brought before the court by the Commissioner of Police on a three-count charge marked NOLC/C/S4/Charge No/2026.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on 5th February, 2026, at about 1400hrs at 26, Ajoke Okusanya Street, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
The prosecution alleged in Count I that Ifeoma Chianumba and others now at large conspired among themselves to commit felony, to wit assault occasioning harm. The offence is said to be contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In Count II, the Police alleged that the defendant unlawfully assaulted one Vivian Azinge by using a knife to stab her on her right hand, which resulted in multiple injuries. The offence is punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Count III stated that the defendant unlawfully did grievous harm on the same Vivian Azinge by using a knife to inflict multiple wounds on her right hand. This is contrary to Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department, SID Ikeja. The Investigating Police Officer listed on the charge sheet was Inspector Agesin Olufemi.
When the charges were read to her in court, Ifeoma Chianumba pleaded not guilty to all the three counts preferred against her.
The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove the allegations.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
Legal experts who witnessed the proceedings noted that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
The court ordered that all exhibits related to the case be properly documented and kept in custody pending trial.
