A 47-year old woman, Vivian Ogunbiyi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a man, Opeyemi Oladipupo, to the tune of N3m under false pretence.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 5th January, 2025, at Meiran Area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect obtained the money from the complainant under false pretence, diverted the money and went into hiding.
The matter was reported to the Police at Meiran Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained her at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Vivian Ogunbiyi “F” on the 5th January, 2025 at Meiran Area, Lagos State in the Ikeja Magistrate District, did convert the sum of 3.2 million (Three Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira only) property of one Opeyemi Oladipupo ‘M’ and thereby committed an offence under Section 280(2) and punishable under Section 287(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
