Woman, 53, Charged For Flogging Rival With Broom During Public Brawl

A 53-year-old woman, Atinuke Akhide, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly attacking and flogging her female rival, Irabor Joyce, with a broom during a public brawl.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 18th September, 2025, at
No. 33, Dada Olowu Street, Ahmadiya, Meiran, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect had a disagreement with the complainant. In the process, the suspect was accused of attacking Irabor Joyce, a female victim, by flogging her with a broom at her residence in Meiran, Lagos.
The matter was reported to the Police at Meiran Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court through the Commissioner of Police, for the violation of Section 172 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.
The charge read:
“That you, Atinuke Akhide, on 18th of September, 2025, at about 0930hrs at No. 33, Dada Olowu Street, Ahmadiya, Meiran, Lagos at Ikeja Magisterial District, did assault one Irabor Joyce “F” by using a broom to flog her and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
