Woman Who Beat Daughter, 4, To Death Remanded In Prison

A 37-year old woman, Elizabeth Akinola, who allegedly flogged her four-year old daughter, Testimony, to death over witchcraft has been arrested and remanded in prison custody in Ondo State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Iro Street in Akure town, Ondo State, where they reside.

Elizabeth and her husband were alleged to have flogged and beaten the victim over the suspicion that she was possessed by evil spirits and they embarked on torturing the victim to cast out the witchcraft from her in the form of deliverance.
However, during the deliverance saga, they inflicted serious injuries on the victim; she collapsed and died. The assault was reported to the Police and Elizabeth was arrested for murder but her husband escaped.
She was arrainged before the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure on a two-count charge bordering on murder and physical assault on the deceased.
Elizabeth and her husband, Felix, who is currently on the run, were said to have beaten Testimony to death at Iro Street, Akure, in August, over alleged deliverance from demonic spirits.

The Presiding Magistrate, Victoria Bob-Manuel, ordered the remand of Elizabeth in prison custody pending the outcome of advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The matter was adjourned till 9th October, 2019.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Elizabeth’s case may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds her culpable for homicide over the alleged murder of her daughter and if she is tried and found guilty, she may may be sentenced to life imprisonment for the alleged offence.
