Posted on November 23, 2025

The Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Lagos has bestowed on Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, the Distinguished Lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, its prestigious fellowship award of Fellow of the Yaba College of Technology, (FYCT) at the 37th Convocation ceremony of the tertiary institution over the weekend.

It will be recalled that a few years ago a similar award was bestowed on the senator by the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State when he was awarded the Fellow of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (FFPI).

The Rector of YabaTech, Dr,(Engr) Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, while giving the award to a representative of the senator, Hon. Bolaji Oyeleye, said that the award was given to the senator for his “ contribution to the growth of education and the nation” adding that his persistent role and support for the institution to transform to a university over the years is well appreciated.

At the award presentation to Senator Adeola who was unavoidably absent at the ceremony, he stated that he is a believer of good education as a veritable foundation for success in any endeavor adding that he will continue to support the growth of education in all ramifications.

“I am very happy at this award from the renowned and famous YabaTech. As a senator, I have made series of attempts to upgrade YabaTech to a technology university considering its capacity and long institutional memory of technology education. In the 8th Senate between 2015-2019, I sponsored a bill for the upgrade of the college to a university. The bill passed first and second reading before the expiration of the Senate. Again, in the 9th Senate between 2019-2023, I re-sponsored the bill and it was passed by the Senate but not concurred to by the House of Representatives before the end of that session” he recalled.

Senator Adeola, who is the chairman of the 10th Senate Committee on Appropriations, commended the leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele for re-introducing the bill which has now been passed by the National Assembly and assented to adding that the upgrade will greatly assist in technological education of students as human resources inputs to the industrial complex of the nation in that axis.

“I want to appreciate and commend the Rector, the Governing Council, lecturers and students of YabaTech for this award. I will cherish it and not take is for granted as it will spur me further to support further educational development and empowerment like construction of schools, awards of scholarships and bursaries that I am noted for over the years” he stated.

The senator assured the institution of all legislative support for the transition of the school from a college of technology to a full-fledged university of technology in due course.

The presentation was done by Hon. Oyeleye in presence of the senator’s wife, Chief (Mrs.) Temitope Adeola and supporters and well wishers of the senator.
