A 19-year old girl, Miss Dorcas Adeliwa, who arranged with her friend, Ifeoluwa Ogunbajo, 20, for her kidnap has revealed that she did so in order to extort N600,000 from her father as claimed that her father was stingy and was not giving her money.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that their action landed them in trouble as they were arrested and paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal at the Command, Lagos.

CP Edgal said that on 12th July, 2018, the father of Dorcas reported at Ketu Police Division that he was at Odogbolu in Ogun State for a burial when he received a call from a phone number – 090574332362, that his daughter had been kidnapped and he should pay N600,000 ransom for her release. He said the matter was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Department who went into action which led the operatives to Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State where the phone was located.
The police boss said that the search for the victim led them back to Ikotun area of Lagos. When the kidnappers knew that the police were about to arrest them, the supposed victim called her father that she had been released after the father had paid N80,000 into her UBA account.
However, when Dorcas was undergoing debriefing upon her purported release, she confessed that she actually planned her kidnap scam with her friend who provided her an accommodation at 174 Adebayo Road in Okesopin area of Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State and the contact phone number they had used. The suspects were subsequently arrested and detained at the Police Command in Lagos.

During interrogation, they confessed to the act. Dorcas revealed why she did so and pleaded for forgiveness.
However, the CP directed that the suspects be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the father was still in shock that his own daughter could plan such scam despite his efforts to make her comfortable.

CP Edgal used the opportunity to advise parents and guardians to monitor the activities and movements of the children and know their friends in order to avoid such incidents.
