Crippled Beggar Arrested With A Gun
CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
The police at Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos has arrested a crippled man who was usually on the streets on daily basis begging as he was found with a gun.
The suspect who the police was yet to declare his details was arrested along Idimu/Egbeda with his clutches and gun.
P.M.EXPRSS gathered that the suspect was arrested by a team detectives who were on discreet investigation. They apprehended him, searched and the gun was discovered inside his bag.
He was immediately arrested and detained at the Area M Command for interrogation.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped from police sources that the suspect had refused to state his mission with the gun as a known street beggar.
Some of the officers were of the opinion that it was either the suspect was a confirmed armed robber or kept weapons for robbers and pretended to be a beggar.
When our correspondent visited the Area M Command, Idimu to speak with the Area Commander, ACP Austine Akika, he was said to have gone to the State Command to brief the Commissioner of Police over the incident.
However, sources at the Command said the suspect will likely be transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS for further interrogation.
The arrest of the suspect has been a subject of discussion among the residents who said they knew the suspect and have assisted him in the past. Some of the residents were of the opinion that the suspect should be protected for him to confess and mention the names of the members of his gang.
They reasoned that since he could not have gone on operation with clutches as a crippled man, he might have provided robbers with information while pretending as a beggar
When P.M.EXPRESS contacted the Police Public Relation Officer, SP Chike Oti, he could not be reached.
The Area Commander, Akika was later contacted and he confirmed the incident and said he had directed his officers to transfer the matter to SARS.
Sources at the SARS office confirmed the transfer and said that the suspect was already undergoing interrogation and may be paraded by the CP soon.
