Hawker In Trouble After Standing As Surety For Brother Who Stole Company’s N5m

A hawker, Solomon Dike, has landed in prison after his brother, Anselem whom he stood as guarantor stole a company’s N5m products and ran away in Okota, Lagos.

Dike was asked to pay the money or produce the suspect who he was unable to do.

Consequently, he was arrested and charged before a Lagos court to show cause why he will not be liable for the theft.

The two brothers, Solomon and Anselem from Ikeduru in Imo State came to Lagos to hassle for survival.

While Anselem was employed at R-Journey International in Okota, Solomon chose to hawk phone chargers while waiting for a time he will get more money to start a good business.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that Anselem stole and sold the company’s products worth N5m the amount and when the company discovered, he fled without informing Solomon, his guarantor who was arrested on the road while he was hawking.

The police detained him at the Okota Police Station where he was asked to produce Anselem or the money he stole.

According to Solomon, he had tried to contact Anselem, his phones were switched off and since then, Anselem had not contacted him.

When he was unable to meet up with any of the demands, he was charged before Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo for the alleged offence.

He pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola granted Solomon bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureies in the like sum.

Solomon was remaded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 6 March 2017.
