Police Officer Attacked By Okada Riders, Narrowly Escapes Death

A senior police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Lebi Augustine, attached to Ikotun Police Division, Lagos, narrowly escaped death after he was brutally attacked and mobbed by motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada riders.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the incident happened at Egbe by Cele bus stop in Ikotun Area of Lagos, where the officer, Augustine, went to answer a distress call with a team of police officers.
When he got there, the okada riders mobilized themselves, attacked Augustine, tore his uniform and attempted to set him ablaze before he managed to escape with severe injuries.
He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he is still receiving treatment while the other police officers who went with him to the scene were said to be lucky and escaped unhurt.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the Police later mobilized and arrested some members of the group who had attacked Augustine.
The suspects were Allen Azeez, 47, Olanrewaju Adebanjo, 34, Nureni Abiola, 33, Ismaila Oyedapo, 49 and others at large.
They were charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for assault and remanded in prison custody.
When they were brought to the Court, the prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, informed the Court that the victim was a serving Police officer who was on lawful duty before he was brutally attacked by the suspects alongside other accomplices who were said to be at large.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison pending when they will perfect their bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 13th May, 2019.
