With the launching of the revised guidelines for Community Development Agreement (CDA) in the mining sector, it is believed that the Federal Government through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development will ensure that host communities benefit to the fullest extent from the operations of mining companies.
Speaking on the initiative by the Federal Government, Dr. Dele Alake, the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, said, “Our goal is to create an atmosphere free from disputes while also securing the necessary royalties for government’s economic development”.
“The launch of these revised CDA guidelines is a crucial step towards achieving these goals. By implementing the guidelines, mining sector operators will be able to make profits, host communities will benefit greatly, and the era of governments being shortchanged in taxes and royalties will be left in the past.”
“As regulators, it is our responsibility to ensure the enforcement of these guidelines. We call upon the host communities to create a peaceful and supportive environment for smooth mining operations. Likewise, companies must ensure that host communities fully enjoy the benefits of the minerals found in their land. Without peace, progress will be elusive for everyone involved.”
“I will like to express my gratitude to the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development for their partnership in developing these revised guidelines. They are up-to-date and beneficial to all stakeholders involved.”
