Posted on June 1, 2024

The 36 State Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, including the FCT, Abuja, have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mrs Mary Alile, saying that they are very happy under her leadership.

The vote of confidence was passed at a meeting of all the APC State Women Leaders with the National Women Leader in Abuja on Friday, 31st May, 2024, at the APC National Secretariat, in response to a protest by a handful of unknown women at the APC National Secretariat, who called for the resignation of Dr. Mrs Mary Alile as the APC National Women Leader.

The group of unknown women is suspected to be have been sponsored by detractors of Dr. Mary Alile, whose performance since assuming office in last year has reportedly surpassed expectation even as it has been considered unprecedented by APC women and other stakeholders.

Some of the state women leaders, who took turns to speak and affirm their support for Dr Mrs Mary Alile included: Dr. Amaka Onu (Enugu State), Hon. Hauwawu T. Aduku (Kogi State), Lady Maria Ejielo (Anambra State), Fakokude Kudirat (Osun State), Obonodo Ini Uko (Akwa Ibom State), Patricia Betty Okeobor Benson (Edo State), and Ladies Jubril (Yobe State).

They all praised Dr. Mary Alile for running a transparent, inclusive and progressive administration, and for taking care of their interests and, by extension, the interest of the average APC woman across the country. They dismissed the protest that was staged against the APC National Women Leader as lacking substance.

The Akwa Ibom State Women Leader, Mrs. Obonodo Ini Uko, who anchored the voting proceeding, in her remarks described Dr. Mary Alile as “a veteran politician, a political bourgeoisie, a woman leader per excellence”.

Continuing, Mrs. Uko said of their relationship with the APC National Women Leader: “We enjoy working with you because you are transparent, you carry us along. Most of us did not know where Villa (Presidential Villa) is, but today, courtesy of you, we go to the Villa every week. Today we want to tell you that we are very happy”.

She went on to encourage the National Women Leader to brace up for the challenges of opposition saying: “We want to tell you that one of the attributes of a good leader, is blackmail. When you are a good leader, people are bound to blackmail you; people are bound to gossip (about) you”.

Expressing their support for Dr. Mary Alile, Mrs Uko said: “Don’t be deterred. We are solidly behind you. The battle is for us; not even for you. I want to say that all the 36 State Women Leaders, including the FCT, are solidly behind you”.

Finally, Mrs Obonodo Ini Uko called for a vote on Dr. Mrs Mary Alile, to which all the women leaders unanimously chorused their vote of confidence on the APC National Women Leader.
