The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation and Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, has reassured people of Yewa/Awori to continue delivering effective representation at the Senate.
Senator Yayi, who spoke at the sideline of the grand finale of Oronna festival, held at the Asade Agunloye pavilion, Ilaro Yewa, Ogun State on Sunday, noted that the Senatorial district will continue to witness massive empowerment programmes for the youth and women.
Speaking on the theme of the festival, “Festival of Transformation and Development”, Senator Yayi noted that the objectives of the festival align with his vision and programmes facilitated in the senatorial district.
He said the festival promotes unity and facilitation of self-development community projects.
According to him, despite losing counts of the federal government projects facilitated in Ogun West, he has constructed 19 roads, 12 classrooms with library and staff rooms in 15 schools, 5 Primary Healthcare Centre and two Intensive Care Units.
Other projects facilitated within the last one year include, construction of five modern lockup and open stall with 40 and 60 open stalls apiece respectively, construction of 3 Police stations and construction of 6 ultra modern town halls.
Senator Yayi stressed that, these projects are targeted at complimenting the efforts of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“During the celebration of the festival last year with the theme of “Festival of Great Expectation”, I made a pledge
to continue to facilitate development not only to llaro-Yewa but the nooks and crannies of Ogun West senatorial
district. That was what led to my aspiration to make the whole district a “small London” during the last Yewa
Festival in terms of development indices.
“About one year down the line, I can confidently state that the foundation for “Small London” is being laid across all the 5 Local Government Areas of my district. With the theme of this 31st Edition of the festival as “Festival of Transformation and Development”, it is no doubt in tandem with my vision and the programmes and projects that I have been facilitating including the expansion and re-development of this pavilion where we are today celebrating this festival.
“At this point let me use this opportunity to express appreciation to His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, the governor of Ogun State for his constant and unwavering support for me as a person and his support for my complimentary moves to bring development for my people. I will never take his support for granted and will continue to partner with him in the development of my people and indeed the development of Ogun State.
“In this connection, let me also thank the governor for his numerous developments across the length and breadth of Ogun State which made a huge and significant departure from the past for the benefit of my people.
“l also use this opportunity to express my goodwill to our royal father, Oba Olugbenle for his vision in using this cultural tourism festival as a platform for the promotion of unity and the tradition of the people as well as a means of attracting and facilitating self -help community development projects.
“At present several projects that I facilitated have been completed and put in use across all the 5 Local Government Areas of Ogun West Senatorial District. These include construction of 19 roads, construction of Block of 12 Classrooms with Library and staff rooms in 15 schools, construction of 5 Primary Healthcare Centre and 2 Intensive Care Units, Construction of 5 modern Lockup and Open Stall with 40 and 60 Open Stalls apiece respectively, construction of 3 Police Stations and construction of 6 ultra-modern town halls.
“These projects are targeted at complementing the efforts of our governor, Prince Abiodun in delivery of the dividends of democracy for our people and in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.”
No fewer than 45 Senators, the State Governor, minister, Inspector General of Police and other notable politicians across the country graced the occasion.
In his address, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jubrin Barau commended the people of Ilaro for preserving and celebrating their culture.
He urged them to continue to live in peace and work for the development of their communities.
He called on the federal government to use cultural tourism festival as a tool of development.
The Deputy Senate President noted that, some African countries earned their substantial revenue including foreign exchange from tourism.
The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun said his administration has been supportive of culture and tourism development, adding that his administration has facilitated development across the State through his ISEYA agenda.
Governor Abiodun explained that, his administration has consistently focused on the speedy development of Ogun West Senatorial District due to age long neglect of the zone by previous administrations.
He noted that the zone, being the largest non oil revenue earner and food basket of the state, it was not given the needed attention.
