Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons for their thrilling 3-2 victory over Morocco to win the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing the triumph as a testament to the team’s resilience and the indomitable Nigerian spirit.

In a statement issued on Saturday night, Chief Obiano extolled the Falcons for their exceptional performance, noting that their victory has once again reinforced Nigeria’s position as the powerhouse of women’s football in Africa.

“The Super Falcons have made Nigeria proud by defeating Morocco 3-2 to lift the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. This victory is not just about football; it is a bold reminder of the determination, courage, and tenacity of the Nigerian woman. I heartily congratulate the players, the coaching crew, and the entire football family for this historic achievement,” Obiano said.

He praised the Falcons for their fighting spirit, especially in overcoming a resilient Moroccan side on their home soil, adding that the win will inspire millions of Nigerians, particularly young girls, to believe in their dreams.

Chief Obiano, whose administration in Anambra State was noted for promoting grassroots sports development, called on the Federal Government and corporate bodies to channel more investment into women’s football, stressing that the Super Falcons have consistently shown they deserve better support and recognition.

“As we celebrate this great moment, it is important that we support these champions with improved welfare, infrastructure, and funding. They have done their part in making Nigeria proud; now we must do ours in sustaining their success,” Obiano urged.

He also encouraged Nigerians to continue to support the team as they prepare for future international engagements, expressing confidence that the Super Falcons will keep flying the nation’s flag high on the global stage.
