From Learning To Leading: My Journey To Professional Public Leadership At SPPG & Birth Of The Capitol Post Civic Leadership Initiative

Leadership is not inherited; it is learned, tested, and proven through service. My journey through the School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG) reaffirmed this truth and set me on a transformative path — one grounded in values, civic renewal, and institutional reform.

Ten months ago, I enrolled at SPPG with a simple but profound question: What does it truly take to lead change in a society struggling with governance and public trust?
The answer, as I discovered, lies not in rhetoric or ambition, but in competence, character, and capacity.

At SPPG, I was immersed in a rigorous program that challenged not only my intellect but also my convictions. From modules on public policy and systems thinking to ethics, leadership, and economic governance, every session reshaped my understanding of what it means to lead in Nigeria today.

The experience was both intense and enlightening — blending academic depth with mentorship from reform-minded leaders who have left indelible marks on Nigeria’s governance landscape. Beyond the classroom, SPPG fostered a community of changemakers united by a shared belief: that Africa’s transformation begins with principled leadership.

Today, as I proudly join the SPPG Leadership Network, I see this milestone not as an endpoint, but as a new beginning — a platform to apply what I have learned in real civic spaces and contribute more boldly to nation-building.

Extending the Vision: The Capitol Post Civic Leadership Initiative

The lessons from SPPG inspired me to take action through the Capitol Post Civic Leadership Initiative, a platform designed to translate civic knowledge into public impact. Rather than competing with SPPG’s vision, the Initiative extends its ideals into the media and civic education space — where citizens engage, learn, and participate in governance.

Powered by Ekocity Media Company Ltd, publishers of The Capitol Post, this Initiative builds on our media brand’s identity as “Civic Power in Print.”
Its mission is clear — to promote civic awareness, accountable leadership, and informed citizenship across Nigeria.

The Capitol Post Civic Leadership Initiative rests on four key pillars:
• Civic Enlightenment: Making governance and policy issues understandable and relatable to ordinary citizens.
• Accountability Journalism: Promoting transparency and trust through fact-based, civic-driven reporting.
• Leadership Spotlight: Showcasing individuals and institutions that exemplify integrity, innovation, and impact.
• Civic Engagement and Mentorship: Encouraging active citizenship, especially among the youth, through education, mentorship, and community dialogues.

This initiative is about building citizens, not politicians — nurturing a new consciousness that values service over status, and solutions over slogans.

As I reflect on my journey from learning to leading, I remain grateful to SPPG for the foundation it has laid — for transforming students into reformers, and ideals into action. Through platforms like The Capitol Post Civic Leadership Initiative, I am committed to advancing that same vision: a Nigeria where leadership is defined not by power, but by purpose.

Because the future we desire will only emerge when we decide to lead — with integrity, with courage, and with the people at the center of every decision.
