Ooni Pays Tribute As Last Surviving Child Of 48th Ooni Ademiluyi Dies At 102

The Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), Arole Oodua Olofin Adimula and the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has paid glowing tributes to the last surviving child of the Ooni Alayeluwa Ademiluyi Ajagun, the 48th Ooni of Ife, Princess Rafatu Ademinure Awofisayo, who passed on at the age of 102.

In a statement on Wednesday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the Ooni described the transition of Princess Awofisayo as the end of a remarkable era, noting that her life was one of profound impact, service, and spiritual devotion.

According to Ooni Ogunwunsi, the late Princess Rafatu Ademinure Awofisayo lived a fulfilled life worthy of celebration rather than mourning, having dedicated over a century to the service of humanity, faith, and the preservation of Yoruba royal heritage.

The Ooni highlighted her pivotal role as the Iya Adinni of Ifeland, where she stood as a pillar within the Muslim community. He commended her unwavering commitment to the growth of Islam, emphasizing her contributions to fostering unity, discipline, and compassion among adherents within Ile-Ife and beyond.

“Kabiyesi noted that Mama was more than a royal figure; she was a spiritual beacon and a bridge between generations, whose life reflected divine grace and purpose,” the statement read.

Reflecting on her royal lineage, the Ooni stated that Princess Awofisayo upheld the legacy of her father, Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, with dignity and pride. He described her as a custodian of culture who preserved the traditions and values of the Oodua race with exceptional grace.

He further praised her virtues of humility, wisdom, and motherly love, noting that she nurtured generations and offered guidance to many, earning widespread respect across religious and cultural divides.

The Ooni urged the people of Ifeland and beyond to celebrate her legacy by living purposeful lives rooted in service, unity, and faith, stressing that her 102 years on earth stand as a testament to a life richly blessed.

While praying for the peaceful repose of her soul, the Ooni expressed confidence that her legacy would continue to inspire generations to come.
