Osun Governorship Election Offers Vital Lessons For APC Ahead Of 2027 – Says Haruna Jubril

Posted on August 17, 2026

The Secretary, Media & Publicity of the Campaign Committee, Ikeja Federal Constituency, Mr. Haruna Jubril, has said the just-concluded Osun State Governorship Election provides important lessons for all stakeholders in Nigeria’s democracy, and particularly for the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Monday, Jubril commended the APC leadership for respecting the outcome of the election and allowing the democratic process to run its course.

“I commend the APC leadership for allowing the democratic process to take its course and for respecting the outcome of a free, fair, and credible election,” he said.

“The victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke should not be seen merely as a setback for the APC, but as a win for democracy, good governance, and the democratic values we are committed to protecting.”

According to him, the conduct of the election is proof that democracy is allowed to thrive under the APC.

“This is proof that under the APC, democracy is allowed to thrive. We conducted ourselves in a manner that ensured the people’s will prevailed, free from interference. That legacy will strengthen trust in our party and silence the naysayers,” he added.

Jubril noted that the outcome presents the APC with an opportunity for honest reflection and better preparation ahead of 2027.

“The outcome also presents the APC with a timely opportunity for honest reflection, constructive assessment, and renewed preparation. We must study the lessons from Osun closely: listen more to the people, strengthen our grassroots structures, improve internal communication, unite our ranks, and develop policies that directly address the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.”

He stressed that elections are won not only at the ballot box, but through trust, unity, effective grassroots engagement, credible leadership, and the consistent delivery of democratic dividends.

“As we look toward 2027, the APC must remain focused, organized, and people-centered,” he said.

The APC chieftain urged party leaders and members to see the Osun experience as both a learning opportunity and a call to greater commitment.

“I therefore urge our leaders and members to see the Osun experience as both a learning opportunity and a call to greater commitment. Let us learn from what happened, correct our shortcomings, and work together to build a stronger, more united, and more responsive APC.”

“Democracy thrives when the people’s will is respected. The Osun outcome will deepen public confidence in the APC and prove that our party puts Nigeria and democracy first. May Nigeria’s democracy continue to grow stronger.”
