Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has come under attack over recent political rally organized to drum support for his re-election in next year’s gubernatorial election in the state.

Osun State Chairman of Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) , Dr. Charles Omidiji, did not mince words when criticizing the governor for going ahead with the rally at a period the delta variant of COVID-19 is ravaging the country and more importantly the financial situation of the state which he aid is not buoyant to accommodate unnecessary spending.

The ADC chairman in Osun said that state sponsored rally by Oyetola and his All Progressive Congress (APC) was charade of failure,

“I think the governor was just in sensitive to economic and health plight of Osun people At a period when the people of the state are groin in economic hardship, couple with fear of current wave of Delta variant of covid -19, the government of Oyetola went ahead to organized what he tagged 20,000 solidarity rally with Osun state budget, unfortunate for him, it was that day Osun people gave him red card, the rally could not record 1, 000 people despite shutting down business of government for that rally and heavy budget of Osun spent on it. We could see that he was openly booed by market women and youth to show that they don’t want him again. In the political parlance, such a rally is better described as a ‘show of shame’,” said Dr. Omidiji

Responding to a question that Oyetola had earlier said that the coming governorship election should not be seen as a do or die affair, that Osun people will decide his political faith, Dr. Omidiji said the governor is playing a hide and seek game, adding that “Governor Oyetola knows that as far as acceptability is concerned, he is not acceptable in Osun again, his government is not focus to improving the living standard of the people of Osun, and our people cannot wait for 2022 to kick him out of the Government House with their votes.

“Do you know the nuisance the rally constituted on that day, the miscreants were attacking innocent people to the point that they were attacking their party members who were not sharing their views. To me, it is hallucination of a drown government that is fighting for political survival.

“Some people are saying there has been intra party squabble in Osun APC. I won’t agree with that because if it is family affair, they should limit their fighting to their secretariat not disturbing or harassing innocent citizen who were going out for their legitimate businesses. If you witness their uncivilized behavior of hiring thugs for that rally at popular Aregbe bus stop, you will agree with me that the government of Oyetola does not deserve second term and our party, ADC is ever ready to rescue our people from the unfortunate situation in the hand of APC government in Osun State,” he said.

Speaking on the proponent of 60 years age limit for elective positions in the country as the country gears up for the 2023 general election, Dr. Omidiji said: “For our party, we believe youth should be given a chance and our party is youth and women friendly. I will advice other parties to the cue from us. So having someone above 60 years old as Governor in Osun in 2022 should not be accepted by the electorate.

“I can conveniently say that our members are increasing geometrically every day, the people have tasted the two parties; APC and PDP, it was disappointment all over, but our party has been recognized to be an honesty party and our plan is to breathe fresh air in to the state in 2022.”
