The death of Mallam Abba Kyari, erstwhile Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Muhammadu Buhari, has been described as a loss not only to his boss, but to the entire nation.

This was the submission of Nigerian Boxing Ambassador, Bashiru Lawrence Ali, OON, while paying tributes to the late Abba Kyari who died last Friday due to complications of Coronavirus infection at First Cardiology Consultants in Lagos.

Born in the north-eastern state of Borno, Kyari obtained degrees in sociology and law and attended the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland. He became chief executive officer of the United Bank for Africa Plc and served on the boards of both Unilever Nigeria Plc and Exxon Mobil Corp.’s Nigerian unit.

Kyari, an ally of Buhari became the Chief of Staff of the Nigerian President since 2015 until his demise last Friday.

While mourning Kyari, Bashiru Ali, popularly called Bash Ali, said that the deceased was a modest politician, whose loyalty to his boss would be a reference point for all public office holders to emulate. He was also a member of the Bash Ali Boxing Project Local Organizing Committee (LOC) which was inaugurated on May 21, 2019 by the then Minister of Sport, Solomon Dalung.

“His death leaves a huge vacuum in the government of President Buhari and in the LOC ,” said Bash Ali who is preparing to fight in Nigeria the first Guinness World Record Boxing Championship Fight on the soil of Africa.
Bash Ali urged President Buhari to take solace in the fact that Kyari died as a man of honour and integrity.

‘’This is a sad moment for Mr. President and the whole nation. Abba Kyari was a trusted right-hand man of President Muhammadu Buhari and we all know his loyalty and patriotism. He was indeed a true Nigerian patriot.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I commiserate with President Buhari. May Allah grant him peaceful repose,” said Bash Ali, the World Boxing Federation (WBF) cruiserweight champion.
