Former Chief Executive Officer of OPay Nigeria, Olu Akanmu says there is no better time for Rotarians in Nigeria to assist more people in the society than now.
Speaking at the 57th Investiture of Rotarian Kayode Situ as the President of Rotary Club of Ikeja, Akanmu, who is now the Executive in Residence at the Lagos Business School, commended Rotarians for their interventions.
While describing Nigeria as an unfair society with about 150 million living in poverty, Akanmu said an unfair society was an anathema to the moral code of Rotary’s 4-way test.
According to him, ” Nigeria today is a reflection of our collective elite failure and there are not many moral codes as powerful as the Rotary 4 – Way Test. Rotary club can therefore be a powerful force of influence for a fairer inclusive society leveraging its strong and concentrated elite power. “
He added that,” I would recommend a Tripod model of Triangular Engagement by Rotary club with the society involving the 4-Way Test, Rotary elite power and society engagement. “
The investiture, which took place at the Sheraton Lagos Hotel also afforded the club the opportunity of inducting two honorary Rotarians, namely the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade and President and Chairman of Governing Council of the Institute of Directors Nigeria, Alhaji Tijjani Mohammed Borodo, who was also the Special Guest of Honour. Alhaji Borodo was represented by Mr. Tunji Oyebanji, MD/CEO 11 Plc, formerly Mobil Nigeria and the 1st Vice – President, CIoD.
The club also inducted members of the Board of Directors for the 2024/2025 Rotary Year.
Founded 57 years ago, Rotary Club of Ikeja is the first club in the new District 9111 and eighth club in Nigeria, with the Doyen of all Districts in Nigeria, Past District Governor, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, Chief Olusegun Osunkeye and Chief Sam Bolarinde.
