In relation to the expected role performance of “The Church”, the Anglican Communion in Abia State, held an interactive session on Sunday in Umuahia with Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah and his running mate, Rt. Hon. Martins Azubike. The leadership of the church in Abia State was represented by Bishops from across the state, hosted by the Archbishop of St Stephen’s Cathedral Umuahia, Archbishop Nwaosu.
It was an opportunity for leaders of the church, the clergy and the laity to hear from the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State; an invitation said to have been extended to other candidates.
Giving his word of exhortation, Rt. Revd Isaac Nwaobia (PhD), the Bishop of Isiala Ngwa South, said that the church was out to demand good governance. According to him, “there are things we expect from the governance of Abia State. We want a government that is for the poor and a government that does not Lord it over the people”
“We don’t support a government where leaders live flamboyant lifestyle on people’s resources. We want a leadership that is matured and not a child (stooge) in power. We want a government that pays workers salaries. We want a leader that will distribute amenities across the state”
Speaking expressly to Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, the Bishop of Isiala Ngwa South said, “we are challenging you to remain focused. We are not happy and we want to move forward. God is going to use you and your lieutenants to bring change. God is looking up to you. He will not come down to do this job, he is relying on you. The church will pray and continue to pray for good governance”
He thanked Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah on behalf of the Anglican Communion in Abia State, for honouring God and honouring His Church. And he prayed God to honour him.
Responding to questions from the audience, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah said that his determination is to transform Abia State.
He spoke about his “agricultural revolution plan that will see to the establishment of endless orchards crisscrossing ten local government areas” of the state. He spoke about his plan for “restrategized education and dynamic technical education plan that will help Abia youths to acquire employable skills”
Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah also told his audience that in two years he and Rt Hon Martins Azubike will rival the 20 years achievement (if any) of the PDP in Abia State.
Furthermore, he  promised to “build world class infrastructures in the state, revitalise rural economies through community development and the involvement of local contractors and direct labour for construction jobs that are not complex”
He reiterated his desire to bring in Julius Berger to reconstruct and upgrade Aba and Umuahia into world class cities, in addition to developing new cities and towns.
He seized the occasion to assure Abia workers and pensioners that he will not only pay their salaries as and when due, that he will create a good working environment for them and provide their children with quality education that empowers them and other children from Abia to become employable anywhere in the world.
Speaking from his experience as a global business man, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah said that Abia State is going to witness massive Foreign Direct Investment when he becomes the Governor from 2019. The strategy he said is outlined in his working document that will be released soon as his campaign manifesto.
Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah recently signed a document he termed “My Contract With Ndi Abia”, stating the irreducible minimum of achievement that the people should expect from him and Rt Hon Martins Azubike when they come to power.
He and his running mate were later prayed for by all the Bishops present, the clergy and the laity, along with other members of the congregation representing the Anglican Communion in Abia State. They were accompanied by top party leaders, Campaign officials, two House of Representatives candidates and seven candidates for Abia State House of Assembly.
