The President of Igbo Buru Otu in Lagos, High Chief Chika C. Nwokedi, has been bestowed with another chieftaincy title by his own Obodoukwu Community in Ideato area of Imo State, for his contributions and kindness to humanity.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was indeed a kind of carnival as the community gathered and conferred on Chief Nwokedi the title ‘Nwata Yana Chiya Dina Mma’ of Obodoukwu Community, meaning that he is at peace with God.
Dignitaries from across Nigeria attended the event with members of the community, who gathered pouring encomium on Nwokedi who also holds the title of Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the community gave him the honour following his extra ordinary philanthropic gestures to the less privileged in the community. He was said to have built houses, started businesses for the down trodden and given scholarships to the less privileged in the community, which attracted so much attention from all and sundry including the leaders.
Some of the guests, who spoke their mind, commended Chief Nwokedi for his generous nature and said that his life was worthy of emulation by all.
Before now, he has received other chieftaincy titles outside his homestead over his kindness to people; he holds the title of Nwanne Dina Mba of Anam Community in Anambra State.
Nwokedi, a former Chairman of Ladipo Spare Parts Market, said his life had always revolved round philanthropic acts, noting that it was the reason he formed the Ndi Igbo Buru Otu Association of Nigeria. He explained that the association came up to specifically to help indigent individuals in areas of conflict resolution, financial difficulties and human rights abuse. He described the group as non-political and a voice for the voiceless.
“I was moved to come up with this organisation based on several complaints from individuals who daily trooped to my office with all sorts of problem. The group concentrates more on empowerment by assisting individuals who genuinely need help to financially grow their businesses and solve other needs.”
“We don’t condone any form of criminality and we don’t bother to step into any issue that bears a resemblance of crime. We also tend to help anyone that comes to us, irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation” he said.
Chief Nwokedi was well known leader, successful business man and the former President of Ladipo Market, Mushin area of Lagos for several years before he moved into international businesses and set up group of companies. He has been recognized both nationally and internationally for his philanthropic gestures and has won several awards. He is married with children.
