The disappearance of a 20-feet container with N10m worth of goods may have exposed the porous security at the Apapa Wharf terminal in Lagos.
Thus, police operatives have commenced investigations to unravel the syndicate behind the act.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that so far four suspects had been arrested.
They were paraded by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, at the State Command, Lagos.
The suspects were Ganiyu Yusuf, 62, Femi Adewara, 51, Ibrahim Suleimon, 30 and Akeem Abdullahi, 48.
Exhibits recovered included 406 cartons of floor tiles, 6 imported iron doors, three packs of wooden frame and 29 wood PVC.
The police boss said that on 4th July, 2018, the police received information that the container with tiles and other building materials was diverted from the Wharf and offloaded into a shop at 24 Oluwo Plaza in Iddo terminal, Lagos.
He said that based on the information, he directed the men of FSARS operatives assisted by the local police unit to fish out the suspects.
The police operatives were able to locate the shop, apprehended the suspects and recovered the items as exhibits.
CP Edgal said that the theft was possible with the aid of forged documents which enabled them to move the container out of the port. He said that the suspects had already confessed and the goods recovered. The police boss said that they will definitely be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects admitted diverting the goods, saying that they tried their luck but it was unfortunate that they failed. However, they said that they regretted their action vowing not to try such in the future if they got out of the problem.
