COVID-19: Prince Oyekan Wants Lagosians To Play Safe, As Erin Jogun Ola Foundation Donates To The Needy

Posted on April 11, 2020

There is no best time to know who cares for the communities than this period of sit-at-home when it is difficult for people to go about sourcing for their daily living,

The Federal Government had ordered a total lockdown of Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states in order to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus pandemic.

In the wake of this, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu introduced palliative scheme for vulnerable residents who might be affected by the ongoing 14-day lockdown.

The effort of the government cannot go round, hence the need for spirited individuals in the society to join in the crusade to alleviate the suffering of the people during the lcokdown.

It was however not surprising to see the goodness in Prince Ifalade Oyekan, who together with other members of Erin Jogun Ola Life Foundation for Community Development, who distributed some food items to the vulnerables on Lagos Island. He also used the occasion to enlighten his guests on the need to play safe during the lockdown and abide with the instructions from the government and health authorities.

“I am using this opportunity to distribute 500 packs of food items to my people at Isale Eko. This first set was for people above 60 years. The government can’t do it alone. We made sure that we complied with the social distancing requirements as directed by MR. Governor at Oba palace, Isale Eko,” Prince Oyekan said.

Many people who are closed to Prince Oyekan know that he has the large heart of helping people just like his father, the late Oba of Lagos, Kabiyei Adeyinka Oyekan II, who devoted his life to helping people around him.

The CEO/ President of Erin Jogun Ola Life Foundation for Community Development said: “We have been doing this for over 20 years, but what we just did during this lockdown was to support Mr. Governor in alleviating the suffering of the people at this period. Erin Jogun Ola is coming to support what the Governor is projecting and to make sure we contribute our own quota. It is wrong to hear that a bag of rice was being given to a whole community. This is not what the governor directed. The Governor wants a pack of food items be given to each elderly and disable people in the society.

“So on our own part we have to come out to support what the governor is given out, and at the same time to enlighten our people the roles they should play in containing the spread of COVID-19 in several ways such as social distancing, washing hands regularly and maintaining religiously all those guidelines that have been given to us. The essence of this is that when these people go back to their different homes, they would be able to inculcate these habits and also pass them across to their families and neighbours.”

Prince Oyekan said that he is not alone in this humanitarian work as he has other 27 members in Erin Jogun Ola Life Foundation for Community Development, who equally shared his vision and ideas in helping humanity.

“We worked wholeheartedly without waiting for anybody to pay us back because we believed that doing this is part of our own little ways of helping people and identifying with good leadership in the society,” said Prince Oyekan, a lawyer and Human Resources expert.

The Erin Jogun Ola Life Foundation for Community Development, as a youth focused and  development driven organisation, was set up to espouse the ideals for which Kabiyesi Adeyinka Oyekan was well known and further entrench the ideals in the daily lives of the society with a view to building a great Lagos and of course a better Nigeria.
