The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday hosted a high-level debriefing session with Ambassador Joseph K. Adebola, marking a key moment in the Commission’s ongoing engagement with the Nigerian Diaspora in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

Recall Ambassador Adebola was appointed as the Diaspora EFCC Ambassador by EFCC Chairman Mr Ola Olukoyede on 21st November, 2024. He was commended for his sterling contributions and visible achievements over the last six months. His performance, described as “exceptional and purpose-driven,” has significantly strengthened international collaboration, raised awareness, and enhanced the image of the Commission and Nigeria abroad.

The debriefing at the EFCC Headquarters focused on Ambassador Adebola’s achievements thus far and strategic plans for the next phase of his assignment. The meeting also delved into sensitive issues surrounding international cooperation, cross-border financial crimes, and Diaspora engagement frameworks.

Accompanying Ambassador Adebola was Professor Ali Alao, a globally renowned cybersecurity expert and senior lecturer at the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA). He provided technical support and global intelligence insights on most assignments.

Speaking during the session, Mr Michael Nzekwe, Chief of Staff to the EFCC Chairman, representing Mr Ola Olukoyede, who was on another official assignment, noted:

“Ambassador Adebola’s engagement with the Nigerian Diaspora has exceeded our expectations. He has flown the Nigerian flag high and helped bridge the gap between the EFCC and key international stakeholders. We are proud of this partnership and confident it will continue to yield positive results for our anti-corruption drive.”

In response, Ambassador Adebola reaffirmed his commitment to the Commission’s mission and the national interest, saying:

“This is a partnership of purpose and progress. I am deeply honoured to serve and continue building trust and cooperation between Nigeria and the global community with Prof Alao’s security technical expertise. Our Diaspora is a powerful force; together, we will indelibly impact the fight against financial crimes.”

The EFCC-Diaspora collaboration is fast becoming a model of success in international anti-corruption strategy, and this latest meeting solidifies the resolve of both parties to sustain and deepen their work.

The Nigerian Diaspora community has expressed immense pride in Ambassador Adebola’s role and accomplishments, celebrating his dedication, global representation, and visionary leadership.

As the fight against economic and financial crimes continues, the partnership between the EFCC and its Diaspora Ambassador stands as a pillar of integrity, innovation, and international synergy.
