Democracy Day: CLO Lauds Tinubu For Honouring Kudirat, Nwosu, Rewane & Others

Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State Chapter, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his patriotism and wise decision in honouring and rewarding those who made tremendous patriotic selfless sacrifices in enthronement of current democratic dispensation.

 

It will be recalled that CLO has been in vanguard and agitating for honouring Nigerians who made immense contributions towards ending military rule and enthronement of democratic governance on 29th May, 1999.

 

The CLO said, “It is a cheering news and moral boost that Kudirat Abiola, Humphrey Nwosu, Alfred Rewane, Gani Fawehinmi and others especially Ken Saro Wiwa and Ogoni 9 executed under Abacha administration were among those honoured. Tinubu should rename INEC Headquarters as “Prof.Humphrey Nwosu House”. Through his transperant conduct of June 12th presidential elections, he taught us and the global community that Nigeria has patriotic and transperant citizens that can do things right”.

 

This was contained in a press statement endorsed by Evangelist Vincent Ezekwueme and Comrade Chidi Mbah Chairman and Secretary respectively tagged “When a leader is right be with him, if he is still right stay with him, but when he is wrong criticize him constructively with civility”.

“CLO is appealing to President Tinubu as an insider and participant in June 12th struggle to kindly extend such honour and good gesture to Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, Chief Yinka Odumakin, Dr.Joe Odumakin, Cardinal Anthony Okogie, Bishop Anthony Obinna, Dr.Pius Ezeife, who preferred to relinquish his exalted governorship position than to denounce the sacred mandate given to Chief MKO Abiola of Social Democratic Party (SDP) by majority of Nigerian electorate. Also deserving to be honoured include Dr. Nnanna Ukaegbu, who went on indefinite self imposed hunger strike in protest over the annulment, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme who went on 21 days hunger strike in expression of his protest and displeasure over the June 12th annulment, Col.Abubakar Umar, Balarabe Musa, Abubakar Rimi, Arthur Nwankwo and Senator Jonathan Zimgina Abiola’s Campaign Organization Director General.”

 

“Pertinently honouring them will assuage the sufferings and agony of their families, give them sense of belonging and complete long over due June 12th healing processes.”

 

“We equally appeal to President Tinubu to use the marking of this year’s democracy day to improve on security, create jobs, reduce cost of governance, goods and services, provide basic necessities of life at affordable prices, build skills acquisition centres and ensure genuine Electoral Reforms” CLO concluded.
