Democracy Day: Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba Rallies Nigerians Especially Women To Make Polling Units ‘Beacons Of Hope’ Ahead Of 2027

As Nigeria marks another historic June 12 Democracy Day, prominent political leader, Aarebirin Hon. Princess Dr. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, has issued a passionate call to citizens to reject political apathy, urging Nigerians to take active responsibility for the nation’s future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a special Democracy Day address delivered to the people of Ikorodu, Lagos State, and the wider Nigerian populace, Dr. Olabanji-Oba honoured the sacrifices of pro-democracy heroes, emphasizing that active civic engagement is the only path to a prosperous nation.

“Today, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of those who fought for the democratic values we cherish,” she stated. “Democracy remains the foundation of our collective progress, unity, justice, prosperity, and development.”

Speaking in her capacity as the National Coordinator/ Convener of the Amazons Progressive Development for Renewed Hope, Dr. Olabanji-Oba highlighted the critical role of women in safeguarding the nation’s political trajectory. She described the women’s advocacy group not just as supporters of a movement, but as a “formidable force” and the “custodians of a shared dream.”

“True leadership is not measured by words alone but by the courage to protect a vision, the dedication to nurture it, and the commitment to see it succeed,” Dr. Olabanji-Oba declared. “We are defenders of the ideals that inspire a better future. With resilience, strength, and steadfast determination, we continue to play a vital role in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Under her leadership, the Amazons have positioned themselves as a symbol of empowerment and service, promoting the philosophy that lasting progress is only achieved when committed individuals unite to build what endures.

Looking ahead to the next general elections, the Ikorodu-based chieftain delivered a strong warning against civic indifference. She urged every Nigerian—fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters—to rise to the responsibility of democracy.

“Let’s stop the hate. Let’s end the indifference,” she charged the electorate. “The future will not be built by spectators, but by citizens who choose to participate and engage peacefully.”

Dr. Olabanji-Oba appealed to the public to ensure that “every polling unit becomes a beacon of great hope come 2027,” reminding citizens that the future is not secured by chance, but by those willing to lead, serve, and stand firm.

She concluded her Democracy Day address with a message of optimism and “endless love,” praying for the continued blessing and rise of Ikorodu, Lagos State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
