Emeka Anyaoku, Sanwo-Olu, Awele Elumelu, Owen Omogiafo Receive National Honours Awards

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday approved the conferment of the national honours on a former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku; the incoming First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; and Co-Founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation, Dr. Awele Vivian Elumelu among other notable Nigerians including Governors, Ministers, Captains of industry, Academia, Senators, and creative industry luminaries.
In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, a total of 339 persons have been nominated by the federal government to receive national honours.
Chief Anyaoku is the sole person nominated for the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) and Governor Sanwo-Olu gets the Commander of the Order of Niger, CON awards.
Dr Elumelu, also chairperson of Avon Medical Practice Limited; Mr. Terry Waya, a Nigerian businessman; Mr. Wale Edun, an economist and member of the Presidential Transition Committee (PTC) were among those listed for the award of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
Also on the list of 2023 Special National Honours Award recipients are former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande; Ogun State governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba; Mallam Mamman Daura and Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, among others received Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic, CFR honours.
Other recipients are Herbert Wigwe, Group Chief Executive Officer, Access Holdings; late Mohammed Barkindo, former Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) secretary-general; and Justice Chima Nweze, a supreme court judge.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara and Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, are also billed to receive the Commander of the Order of Niger, CON awards.
Ms. Owen Omogiafo, President Of Transcorp Group also gets the national honour of the Officer of The National Order Of The Niger (OON).
