Eradicating Persistence Poverty In Our Local Communities Our Primary Priority – Aarebirin Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba

As the world marks the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is held on 17th October of every year, the National Deputy Chairman (Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen Of Nigeria & Vice Chairman, Ikorodu Local Govt, Aarebirin Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, has said that eradicating persistence poverty in our local communities should be our primary priority.
In his message marking the day, Princess Olabanji-Oba said, “For us it is a day set aside to reflect and acknowledge the efforts and struggles of people living in poverty, an opportunity for them to make their concerns heard and a time to realise that the poor or indigent people are the first ones to fight against poverty”.
“It is expedient to acquire education whether formal or informal; a skill to earn a living. The world now is globally digital. We must catch up with the digital age and plan accordingly. Play time is over. This must be a collective effort. We must be the change we want to see in the world. The time is now! The job of any good government is to improve the quality of lives of its people and also protect lives and properties. We must therefore, also follow other practicable and functional commitments in attaining this goals.”
“Year 2020 Covid-19 pandemic has not made things any easier. The devastating effects have threatened decades of progress in improving people’s lives. Post pandemic world obviously will be a more competitive and it is better for us to face some of the challenges ahead. Emphasis must be on education including adult education, agricultural and manufacturing sector. Human capacity development and empowerment are some of the ways to build back better, transforming our relationship with nature and dismantling discrimination across all fronts, which causes a lot of people to be poor. In Ikorodu Local Council, as one of the closest tiers of government to our residents, our priority is to end persistent poverty. We must therefore, curb our excesses, think and consolidate on being a productive economy more than just a consuming one.”
Aarebirin Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba assured the good and great people of Ikorodu, Lagos and Nigeria at large that genuine efforts are in motion to get sizeable number of the people out of poverty line through well thought out policies.
