Ex-Convicts Nabbed For Forming Coalition Of Robbers

Police operatives have tracked and uncovered ex-convicts who formed a coalition of armed robbers and have been terrorizing innocent people in both Lagos and Ogun States.

The suspects were Usman Fashola, aka Awolowo,31, Opeyemi Oni, 28, Oyeniyi Olaitan, 26 and Oluwaseun Michael, 38.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the arrest of the suspects followed the police gathering of intelligence under IRT. They arrested Michael at Iju area of Sango in Ogun State and he confessed that he was among the armed coalition formed by ex-convicts.

His confession led to the search at Sango area where three other suspects were arrested and a single barrel locally made pistol was recovered from them at their hideout. Both the suspects and the gun recovered from them were taken to the FSARS at Ikeja where they were detained and the gun kept as exhibit.

The suspects were paraded and they confessed that they were a coalition of armed robbers who operated in the two states. One of the suspects, Michael revealed that their members were mainly ex-convicts who had gone to prisons for various criminal offences, served their terms, came out and decided to join the gang. He further said that they were many and lived in various communities in the two states. They obtain information from their members to carry out operations in any particular area and share the loot.

Michael said he was arrested after the operation they carried out on 5th January, 2018 at Sango Ota area of Ogun State. He mentioned that his members were also arrested.

The suspects were among the criminal elements paraded by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi at the Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos.

The police boss said that they received credible intelligence reports about the criminal activities of a gang of armed robbers that specialised in robbing motorists, passengers and equally engaged in house burgling.

He said that the IRT team of the Lagos State Command, Ikeja went into action and it paid off as the suspects were arrested. He thanked members of the public saying that the arrest of the suspects followed intelligence gathering and partnership with the public.

CP Edgal said that the suspects paraded will be charged to court after the police had concluded their investigations on the suspects.
