The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) community came together in a solemn display of solidarity and compassion as they mourned the death of Chief Sylvester Ezeokenwa, father of the party’s National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa.
A funeral mass held at Holy Name Parish in Umuchu served as a poignant tribute to the life of a man whose legacy resonates deeply within the party and the community.
As worshippers filled the church, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who serves as the National Leader of APGA, took a moment to express his heartfelt condolences to Barrister Ezeokenwa and his family.
“This is indeed a huge loss for the entire APGA family,” Governor Soludo stated. “Chief Sylvester Ezeokenwa was not just a devoted father but also a true stalwart of our party, whose exemplary life and commitment to our values will be greatly missed.”
The Governor emphasized the significance of coming together during trying times. “In moments of grief, it is vital for us to stand together, to offer our support and comfort. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to each other, to stand united not only in sorrow but in celebration of life,” he added.
Governor Soludo also used the occasion to announce that construction of the Ugwu Akpu to Ọsụ Umuchu road, a project that had long been awaited, would commence in the coming weeks. “This will not only improve our infrastructure but also stand as a testament to our shared vision for progress and development,” he said, signalling hope for the future.
Earlier in a reflective homily, Most Rev. Jonas-Benson Okoye, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, spoke about the essence of life, framing death as a transition rather than an end. “Heaven is a sweet home,” he said, reassuring the congregation that those with faith in Christ do not truly die but merely transit to a better place. “Let us celebrate the life of Chief Sylvester Ezeokenwa and find solace in the assurance that he is now at peace.”
Barrister Ezeokenwa, visibly moved, expressed his deep appreciation for the outpouring of support from the governor, friends, family, and APGA members. “Thank you for standing with us in our moment of grief. Your presence today speaks volumes about the bond we share in this party and community,” he said.
Notable figures in attendance included Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, National Chairmen of other parties, members of APGA, members of Anambra state executive council, among others
