Hilltop Building Falls, Kills Mother, 3 Children While Asleep

The season of rainfall is really having serious effects on weak structures as there had been reports of increase in collapse of buildings leading to casualties and destruction of properties worth millions of Naira in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that one Emmanuel Utache lost his wife, Mrs. Jumiah Utache and children Faith, 9, Domino, 2 and one-year old Daniel on Saturday after a hilltop structure collapsed on their family house in Magodo, Lagos.
The incident happened at No. 48, Orisa Street, Magodo Phase One, Isheri Waterfront, during the heavy downpour.
It was gathered that the building on Otun Araromi Street collapsed and fell on the family’s residence, crushing the woman and her children, who were sleeping.
The husband, Emmanuel Utache, narrowly escaped death but was said to have sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.
Apart from the casualties, all the properties inside the family house were destroyed and the corpses of the victims have been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary for autopsy report.
While that caused the collapse of the building was being investigated by the Lagos State Government officials, another building was said to have collapsed in Ikorodu area of Lagos. The building that was said to have collapsed was located at Rademo Street, behind Recreation Centre, Ita Elewa, Ikorodu.
The building, said to be an old storey-building built with mud bricks with visible cracks, could not withstand the heavy rains.
