How Soundcity OnTour Is Changing Campus Entertainment In Nigerian Universities In 2026

Campus entertainment in Nigeria is going through a major transformation in 2026. The era where students only gathered to watch artistes perform for a few hours is giving way to a more interactive and participatory model driven by brand-powered campus tours.
One platform leading this change is Soundcity OnTour. After its debut across 10 institutions in 2023, the platform has expanded its reach to 20 campuses in 2026. The expansion shows growing interest from both students and corporate brands in campus-based youth engagement.
The next stop is the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB. According to organisers, the three-day experience will feature a mix of music auditions, dance competitions, games, campus activations and live entertainment, building up to a grand concert.
Unlike traditional concerts, the current format is designed to allow students to step out of the audience and into the spotlight. Students can audition, compete, perform and interact with the brand teams directly. This approach has made campus events more engaging and inclusive.
Two competitions are at the centre of the experience. The Bigi Music Competition will give aspiring student artistes the opportunity to compete for a One Million Naira campus prize and showcase their talent before a wider audience. The Fearless Dance Competition will provide a platform for dancers to display their creativity, energy and originality.
Speaking on the initiative, Brand Manager for Bigi, Biola Aransiola, said the platform is about creating opportunities for young people to express themselves and take their talents further. She noted that young Nigerians are full of talent, creativity and big dreams, and that the brand wants to create spaces where they can bring their creativity to life. She added that Soundcity OnTour allows the team to experience the unique energy of each campus and to provide visibility for emerging talents.
The FUNAAB activation is part of a broader journey that has already taken the experience to several institutions including Pan-Atlantic University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Yaba College of Technology, University of Lagos, University of Uyo, University of Calabar, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Port Harcourt, Niger Delta University and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, among others.
Observers say the success of the tour is linked to how it blends entertainment with opportunity. For students, it is not just about music; it is about being discovered. For brands like Bigi and Fearless Energy Drink, both products of Rite Foods Limited, it is a way to connect with young consumers in an authentic environment where their energy and creativity are celebrated.
Industry analysts also note that campus tours are helping to bridge the gap between entertainment and education. By bringing auditions and competitions to campuses, students who may not have access to big city auditions get a chance to perform. This democratization of opportunity is changing how talent is discovered in Nigeria.
For the students of FUNAAB, the next three days are expected to be a moment to take centre stage, compete, connect and celebrate campus life. As more campuses prepare to host the tour, the impact on how entertainment is structured in Nigerian universities is becoming more evident. The shift from passive shows to talent-driven experiences is defining campus entertainment in 2026.
