I’m Bowing Out National Assembly With My Shoulders High – Ekwunife

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, CON, has expressed that she will be bowing out after four years in the National Assembly with her head and shoulders high, stating that she has deservedly served her constituents meritoriously.
The Federal lawmaker explained that she emerged as one of the best lawmakers and has offered unprecedented representation in line with the duties and responsibilities of the legislature.

Ekwunife, who spoke on Sunday, June 4, 2023, during a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Lawrence Chapel, Awka, noted that she made history as the first outgoing lawmaker in the zone to render an account of stewardship. She restated that she is very proud that her legacy will outlive generations.
The quintessential lawmaker stressed that the outcome of the last Senatorial election was not based on performance, but blackmail and uttered that she has moved on, for God has a better opportunity for her to continue to offer her quota towards nation-building. She noted that she is too young to retire from active politics.

Amidst cheers among the congregation, Ekwunife recalled that she was conferred a National Honour of Commander of Order of the Niger by the former President in recognition of her outstanding legislative performance in the 9th Assembly. She urged women to always thrive to succeed in their various endeavours and not to be deterred by envy, blackmail and harassment.

Ekwunife, while urging the clergy to always maintain political neutrality in pulpits, stated that it was a great disservice to the society for the church to indulge in divisive politics. She stated that the primary assignment of the clergy is to spread the gospel and win souls for God and the leadership of the church should discipline clergymen who use the pulpit to demonise congregants who share the same faith but belong to different political parties.

The A-grade lawmaker further advised clergymen to stop using the pulpit to blackmail and slander politicians for selfish reasons.

In conclusion, the Chairman Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation reiterated that she is working to ensure that all the affected staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University not yet enrolled on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) are captured. She urged the staff to remain calm and be patient with the process.
