IUN’s Salam Urges Notaries’ Society Inductees To Be Professional

Olanigka Salam, the Africa president of the International Union of Notaries, has urged inductees into the Notaries Public Society, (NPS) to be above in their professional dealings.

Salam gave the charge during the launch of the Society, last week, in Lagos.

He told the inductees that their admission into NPS was a testament of their commitments to notarial services.

“You have chosen a path that requires dedication, expertise, and a passion for upholding the trust placed in you,” Salam told the inductees.

Also, he urged the inductees to see themselves “as guardians of authenticity, champions of truth, and facilitators of commerce.”

He counseled the new members to see their role as a ‘privilege’ and “a scared responsibility to uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism.”

In the same vein, the president and master-in-council of the SNP, Mrs. Marlies Allan, said they established the society to protect “integrity and credibility of notarial services”.

Explaining the essence of digitalisation, Bamofin Olumuyiwa Ayojimi, said the society decided to collaborate with ToNote Technologies to ensure a timely, safe, and seamless notarisation of documents and transactions.

In her remark, former chief judge of Lagos state, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.), said that the introduction of technology is a watershed in the history of notary service in Nigeria.

Phillips, who is life patron of the SNP, stressed the importance of the practice, saying that notaries public serve as the “link between individuals, businesses, and governments” and are, therefore, “champions of truth.”

Other dignitaries at the event include representative of the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration, Kemi Nandap; Mr. Abdulla AlQahtani, head, visa center of the United Arabs Emirates, who equally represented the Arab country’s Consular-General in Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Almandoos.

Also, in attendance are Mrs. Sebo Lenyai, deputy consul-general, South African High Commission in Nigeria; Joyce Alex Tanko, director of legal, the National Agency for Foods, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), among others.
