Lagos State Govt Sensitises Widows On Inheritance Rights, Will, Administration Of Estates Law

The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has organised a sensitisation programme through its legal department for widows with the theme: “Inheritance Rights, Will and Administration of Estates Law” at the Prestige Catering and Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
Addressing participants, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecila Bolaji Dada, said that widows in this part of the world are subjected to different forms of hardship through inhuman cultural practices such as being locked in a room with their late husband’s decaying corpse and drinking from the water used in bathing the decomposed body, among other dreadful acts.
She opined that it is of great importance for husbands to protect their wives from unnecessary hardship by writing a Will so that after their death there will be fewer complications and problems for those left behind.
One of the facilitators, Honourable Justice Sherifat Solebo, maintained that it is essential for widows to equip themselves with the provisions of the inheritance and estates law.
She advised mothers to train and spend quality time with their children, stating that this will go a long way in ensuring that a morally strong foundation is laid for their development.
