Man, 29, Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Tricycle Worth N6.2m At Lagos Bus Stop

A 29-year old man, Rejoice Onyenwenku, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly conspiring and stealing a tricycle worth N6.2m belonging to Adeniye Adeyinka at a bus stop. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports he has been arrested and charged for conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal law of the State.

 

The incident happened at Jakande Gate bus stop, Ipaja area of the State.

 

According to the Police, the suspect had targeted the owner, who parked the tricycle. He stole it and when he tried to escape, he was apprehended and handed over to the Police at Ipaja Division for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

 

After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, REJOICE ONYENWENKU ‘M’ and one other at large on the 6th day of September, 2025, at about 11:00hrs at Gate Bus Stop, Ipaja Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

COUNT II:”That you, REJOICE ONYENWENKU ‘M’ and one other at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal a yellow tricycle with registration number JJJ 607 QQ valued Six Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N6,200,000) property of ADENIYE ADEYINKA ‘M’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

 

He pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
